Movement and jumping
Responsive controls, a double jump and air control should make each level feel good to explore, not just cross from left to right.
BUBI · IN DEVELOPMENT
Bubi only wanted a peaceful picnic. But a hungry demon stole the basket of treats — now the chubby green bird has to jump, squash enemies and travel through bright worlds to get his deserved snack back.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Bubi is a bright and accessible 2D platformer: run, jump, look for hidden paths, throw eggs at enemies and sometimes simply land on them with all of Bubi’s weight.
The goal is simple: easy to start, satisfying to move through, and rewarding when the player leaves the main path to find a secret.
STORY SETUP
Bubi was preparing the perfect picnic: a warm forest, a soft clearing and a whole basket of favorite treats. But as soon as he looked away, a hungry demon jumped out of the bushes, grabbed the basket and ran off.
Now Bubi has to chase the thief through bright and dangerous places: summer forests, autumn trails, deserts, ancient ruins, snowy lands and even a train rushing forward.
There will be funny enemies, hidden paths, traps and lost treats along the way. At the end waits the demon’s fiery lair, where Bubi will find out whether he can get the basket back and finally have a peaceful picnic.
GAMEPLAY FOUNDATION
The mechanics are meant to read quickly and give the player control immediately, without turning the game into unnecessary friction.
Responsive controls, a double jump and air control should make each level feel good to explore, not just cross from left to right.
A ranged option for moments when jumping on an enemy is risky or something blocks the way forward.
When an enemy is below, Bubi can solve the problem with weight: crash down from above and squash it.
ENEMIES
Enemies are not just decorations: each one changes the route, the jump timing or the way the player watches the air.
REGULAR ENEMY
Slime blocks the path and teaches the player to jump, attack or squash from above at the right moment. Simple, but useful for the first reactions.
FLYING ENEMY
Biter attacks from the air and breaks the usual safe route. With it, the player has to watch more than just the ground.
